In 2017, the Poznań City Council held 19 sessions – one session more than in 2016 – 259 committee meetings were held and 420 resolutions were adopted. In 2017, the Mayor of the City of Poznań issued 1,025 orders.

Poznań is a city with district rights and a municipal commune. According to the Statute of the City, the legislative and and controlling authority is the Poznań City Council, and the executive authority is the Mayor of the City of Poznań.

Poznań City Council

The legislative and controlling authority of the City of Poznań is the 37-member Poznań City Council, which represents the interests of the residents of Poznań. The main task of the Council is to define the city’s development plan and current directions of its operation. In 2017 the Poznań City Council held 19 sessions – one session more than in 1 – 2016 committee meetings were held and 259 resolutions were adopted, i.e. 7.1% more than in 2016.

The Mayor of the City of Poznań

In 2017, the Mayor of the City of Poznań was Jacek Jaśkowiak – with the help of 4 deputies, the Treasurer and the City’s Secretary. In the performance of his duties, the Mayor issued 1,025 orders in 2017, an average of 85 per month.

Poznań City Hall

The Poznań City Hall is the institution supporting the implementation of the regulations of the Mayor of the City of Poznań and the resolutions of the Poznań City Council and, above all, responsible for the implementation of most public matters of local importance. Its own and delegated tasks, which it carries out, concern mainly spatial order, budget, culture, education, health, greenery, road maintenance, and municipal waste management.

The number of administrative decisions in 2017 increased by 17% compared to the previous year.

At the end of 2017, 31 departments and equivalent organisational units of the Poznań City Hall provided administrative services to residents, in total employing 1.7 thousand people (1.6% more than in 2016), including 3.6% of employees registered as disabled. The organisational units of the Poznań City Hall operate on the basis of the Organisational Regulations enacted by order of the Mayor of the City of Poznań No. 43/2016/K of 6 October 2016.

Municipal organisational units

There were 313 municipal organisational units in Poznań (9 less than in 2016) and 21 companies with the City’s shareholding. Additionally, the City of Poznań held shares in housing cooperatives: “Grunwald”, “Wielkopolska”, “Winogrady”, “Swarzędz” and social cooperatives: “Poznanianka” and belonged to 16 associations, foundations, and inter-municipal associations.

Municipal auxiliary units

There are 42 housing estates in Poznań, auxiliary units covering the entire area of the city. Housing estates have the initiative to pass resolutions on the matters concerning their areas of functioning.
